(May 19, 2021. Brodhead, WI) Three Waters Reserve, located on the beautiful Sugar River in Brodhead, WI is officially open for visitors. In 2018, a group of philanthropic donors purchased the land, the former Decatur Lake Golf Course, with the intention of restoring natural plant and animal habitats. The goal of the new owner, the Southern Wisconsin Land Conservancy, was to restore the oak savanna, prairie, and wetland landscapes of the river valley and continue to bring natural beauty and pleasure to all citizens. This public open space provides a picturesque location to gather, celebrate, and learn about restoring ecosystems and healthy watersheds.
Since restoration began in 2018, wildlife and native plant species have returned and flourished. Visitors can see sandhill crane, fox, migrant birds, and hundreds of other plant and animal species that have not lived in the area in over 100 years.
The newly refurbished Three Waters Reserve Event Center overlooks the scenic Sugar River Valley in rural Green County Wisconsin. From the Center’s Main Hall (located on the upper level) and spacious decks and grounds, one can glimpse the river and wooded bluffs above Decatur Lake, hear the distant roar of the dam, and be mesmerized by the waving expanse of restored prairie and majestic oaks that have occupied the surrounding slopes of the property for more than a century. The Center is a perfect setting for small and larger private and public gatherings. The lovely new interior is designed to complement the surrounding natural landscape and allows overflow to outdoor gathering spaces with access to the Reserve’s maintained trails and 70 acres of restored savanna, prairie, and wetland habitats.
The Three Waters Reserve Event Center’s food and licensed bar services can be reserved for private events and gatherings by families, businesses, clubs and organizations, and other groups. Such events can include weddings and associated parties, birthday and baby shower celebrations, family and class reunions, business seminars, retreats, holiday parties, organizational conferences, symposia, meetings, and more.
