Join expert birder and Green/Rock County Christmas Bird Count (CBC) facilitator Quentin Yoerger for a look at this year’s Christmas Bird Count results and the fascinating birds found across southern Wisconsin.
The Christmas Bird Count began in 1900 as an alternative to the traditional holiday bird hunt. What started with 27 observers recording 90 species has grown into the world’s longest-running citizen science program, with more than 80,000 participants taking part each year. For more than 20 years, volunteers in the Lower Sugar River area have contributed to this important annual count.
Discover what this year’s findings can tell us about local bird populations, how CBC data helps guide conservation efforts, and the role volunteers play in tracking changes in bird populations over time.
Enjoy a delicious meal while celebrating the fascinating world of winter birds. A perfect Lunch & Learn for birders, nature enthusiasts, and anyone curious about the birds in our own backyard!
